The story is based on the characters being idiots - he's first blind then self-sacrificing, she keeps either falling silent or bursting into tears whenever she tries to talk to anyone about the fact that she doesn't _want_ to marry him (different him) anymore. Since she was originally portrayed as intelligent and strong-willed, this is...poorly done. Both of them were presented as interesting characters, but their quirks were quickly abandoned - aside from one comment about being afraid of the dark, after he gets to London I see no evidence of his reaction to being a prisoner any more. Or rather, he talks about reactions but they don't show up in his actual actions. The scandal scene has a few major problems with it - if it was an open carriage, everyone could have seen what was happening, not just the carriage rocking. If it was a closed one and he was driving, he would have had to get down and go into the carriage _after_ she began to shriek. If he wasn't driving...but the book says he was. Sheesh. My sister said it was an interesting book with a neat twist at the end...not sure what she's talking about, Whitby's real motives are rather dull, really. Though I did find Caroline's feelings at the wedding rather more interesting than Cassandra's. Huh, I wonder if her name is a joke - nobody believed what she said? If so, again, poorly done. It wasn't a terrible book, but definitely not one I'll remember with enjoyment, let alone want to read again. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
