I felt slightly lost so I was trying to see if there was a book before it to explain a little more backstory, which now I know there is. Even not having read the first book, I was still able to understand the tone of the story and where things were going. The author did a good job in the beginning of explaining that Emma was the light and Amelia was the darkness. Throughout the book we see Emma develop as a person and as a vampire. She's figuring out her place and her powers while trying to save others from a horrible fate. Right off the bat I did not trust the Astley brothers. Charles especially gave off an air of arrogance and vengeance. Their characters developed pretty well throughout the book as well. The book was a good mix of teen horror, supernatural, and a little bit of romance. You can tell that it was written for young adults, but that did not hinder my reading experience at all. Some of the scenes were they are describing the fighting may have been a little graphic for certain young adult readers, but I'm sure they've seen worse on TV or in the movies. Overall I did like the story, the characters were engaging and most of them were likable. I think I might have had a better experience had I read the first book first, but you don't need to read the first book to understand what's going on after a little bit. I just wish there had been a little bit more backstory maybe. If you like vampires, if you like subtle romance, and if you like books like Twilight, you will most likely like this one so I would recommend! ![]() This is the second book in this series. The first being blood born which was pretty good and had me excited for the next. I would consider this on the higher age bracket of YA as some of the fighting is a bit descriptive. It made me think of vampire academy a bit as well. It's about a dhampir named emma who is trying to learn her powers. Her sister and her are against each other sadly which she struggles with. If your a fan of vampire books then I recommend giving it a try. ![]() Emma has been turned into a vampire and is hunting down her sister to end the war between the Immortals and the half-blood rogues. Despite being somewhat of a YA series I did enjoy this book. I though as a protagonist, Emma was relatable and intelligent. I enjoyed her journey as someone who was struggling to understand her new supernatural abilities. I also enjoyed the world building. I like diving into each author's version of their supernatural worlds and thought Wilson did a great job. I think it might be worth me going back to read the first as I am intrigued what will happen in the next book. ![]() "Blood Torn" is a vampire book about Emma who is a Dhampir still learning how to use her powers. Emma and her friends are trying to find and kill her sister Amelia before she finds and kills them. She is torn between wanting a relationship with her sister and not being able to forgive the sins of the past. Emma is unsure who to trust, however, she must make alliances with other immortal families if she is going to stop her sister. This book is the second in a series. I have not read the first book and I do not feel it is required to enjoy this book. However, I feel I would have understood more of the backstory if I had started with the first one. I love vampire books and was intrigued this story was told from the unique perspective of a Dhampir. I liked the characters, especially Henry, and felt they were relatable. I liked that the book included a little romance mixed in with vampire lore, and a little fighting. It was a well-paced, easy read and I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I have already begun reading the first one. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in vampires. Thanks to LibraryThing and Shelley Wilson for the ARC. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The 2nd book felt long, that more was added just to make it longer.
I really didnt feel much character growth and just the same old teenager angst came across.
The plot was pretty solid and rather typical for the genre so if you like vampire books in the YA genre then this one would be a good read. I'd think it would suit older teens more then younger.
Definitely read the first book before this one. (
