I have been looking forward to book two in the outstanding CAEIN LEGACY series ever since finishing Exile where we learn about Andrew, a half-dragon shifter and the complicated relationship he has with his three brothers. Author AJ Calvin has written wonderfully deep and complex relationships within the family, as well as fantastic world building! GUARDIAN is a book that focuses on the journey Andrew takes with Alexander, his younger brother who also bears a special rare mark that designates him as a mage. But before he can gain his full power, he must go through a dangerous pilgrimage, and Andrew, being an awesome brother, volunteers to go with him as his guardian. I loved the author’s note saying how much of the relationship is based of her relationship with her brother. The love and genuine affection shows! This is such a fantastic quest novel, with wonderful trials at every step of the way, some neat new characters we meet and interesting ways that the chessboard changes with regards to Colin, the one evil brother out of the bunch, who keeps sending people after them, and Thomas, the brother left behind who they communicate with in letters. Without spoilers, the world building is fantastic, I am intrigued to see where things go with some of the new characters, and with Alex, and I cannot wait to see what happens next as Andrew turns his attention to helping Thomas in the next book. Such a great series! 5/5 stars. ( )
