I would recommend this to any young adult, especially those who do not have anyone to go to for life advice. This book covers so many amazing topics that are so important for our youth. It was also easy to read, and engaging. If you are debating on reading, I would 100% say yes ( )

I wish I had a book like this to read when I was an adolescent. Practical Life Skills for Young Adults is an easy-to-read guide for young adults when they begin to approach the world on their own. Covers everything from social relationships to financial literacy with useful practical tips and wise words of advice and encouragement. Highly recommended!

As the author shares at the end of this book, there are learned life skills and choices that lead to an independent, successful and happy life. Like any learning program, good preparation for life has its own breadth or core requirements, ones we often do not pick up in school or even necessarily at home, and may not know we are missing until we experience failure in one area or another. So prep now!

If this book seems a bit remedial at the beginning – you had great parents who taught you all the basics – hang in there because Chapter 2 is better than Chapter 1, and Part 2 begins to get really good.
Aside from topics that might come to mind when thinking about practical life skills, Bowen also covers such topics as personal reputation, making mistakes, career preparation, record keeping, keys to establishing financial stability, skills for building and maintaining healthy social connections, communication that will result in getting your desired objective met, foundations of self-respect and assertiveness as well as empathy for others, and improving your emotional intellect. I particularly enjoyed Part 3 titled “Executive Functioning” as these skills represent the boost from child to adult.

Bowen has compiled a very comprehensive living manual that broadly covers physical, emotional, and executive skills. Some we learn in the home as children; some we need to work on through youth and adulthood to reach positive outcomes in our efforts to forge healthy relationships and to be successful in our chosen work and other activities. This was a book that I wish I had read when I was on my way out of the house going to college at 19 years old. Reading it as an adult I felt like it was very practical and was very helpful. I hope to have my own daughter read this before she leaves home for college. Thanks for compiling such a helpful book for teens/young adults. Many adults could learn these lessons as well! ( )
