Well, this book was not quite what I expected. This is a family type drama that is entertaining from start to finish. Bad decisions, bad choices lies and greed make up each character’s life. I enjoy a book that creates such a big reaction with me. And I wanted to slap several characters…especially Lavender! And don’t get me started on the sneaky Marta! She is something else!

The narrator, Jennifer Pickens, rocked this tale with her voices and her expressions!

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was good, I wouldn't reread, I wouldn't recommend it to all my friends, but I don't regret it. I didn't have that want to keep going just having to know what's coming next. I didn't feel connected to the characters and the end was sad and a bit disappointing. I liked the main male character, didn't like the female main character. This is not a happily ever after book. Overall it was a decent story and I'm glad I read it. ( )

The book is advertised as a "small town revenge thriller" and suspense fiction. For me, the action of the suspense story didn't begin until chapter twenty-seven. I would have started the novel there. Throughout the text the author uses a second font for both some thoughts and some yelling in dialogue. It looks odd and is inconsistent. The author made the bold choice of making all of her characters unlikable. And she managed to make the terrible people's daily lives appear mostly realistic, but not the dialogue. There are some interesting take-aways about opening a franchise business and reading contracts very carefully. ( )

I couldn't review this book as an audio book for Early Reviewers because I wasn't willing to sign up for audiobooks.com and the author couldn't send me an mp3, but she kindly sent me a paperback copy to review, so my review is on the page for the paperback.

The story is complex, but the summaries and book intros tell it all--married woman falls for single guy. An ex-girlfriend wants to get back at perceived wrongs.
I liked the bones of the story, it was good and there was some mystery involved. I was just a little too slow paced for my tastes. I thought the book had way too much detail where it wasn't needed. Who needs to know what the main character is wearing unless it is important to the story?
I think the timeline of the story goes over several years, but it would be even better if the timeline were over 6-9 months, referring back to history to tell the backstories. The beginnings of the plot were not really believable to me. Who flirts with someone while watching kid's soccer? I also was shocked at the ending...Lavender lives on to suck off another unsuspecting man?
All in all, a fun audio book. It would be an excellent beach read.
The narrator is good, not distracting in the least, and does a good job of portraying different characters with her voice changes.
