Welcome to the brutal and elite world of Basgiath War College, where everyone has an agenda, and every night could be your last . . . Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general - also known as her tough-as-talons mother - has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you're smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away . . . because dragons don't bond to 'fragile' humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother's daughter - like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She'll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. Alliances will be forged. Lives will be lost. Traitors will become allies . . . or even lovers. But sleep with one eye open because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.… (plus d'informations)
Caramellunacy: Divergent has a similar dangerous/reckless emphasis on courage and fighting (and thinking outside the box) as Fourth Wing and a similar frowned-upon love story with a damaged young man in leadership and a new recruit.
humouress: Young adults, a generation after a rebellion, in a military college learning to ride dragons and preparing to fight a war against other countries with flying mounts of war. (Be aware that Fourth Wing does have casual swearing and detailed 'bedroom scenes' which Fireborne doesn’t.)… (plus d'informations)
humouress: Young people being trained in a martial college in a country where the authorities are hiding the truth but a rebel group is working to uncover it
Violet is making her way into the dragon quadrant despite her wishes otherwise. Scholarly and fragile, she fights her way through a school of not just hard knocks but deadly consequences. The reward would be to become a dragon rider. The reward for failure is a fatality. Violet is a brittle thing at first but she is determined and courageous. I loved watching her grow and level the playing field with each new challenge. The electrically intimate romance that developed along the way didn't hurt. I look forward to reading the sequel. ( )
I really enjoyed this book. There were twists that felt expected, but there were other surprises that caught me totally off guard. Really fun read, though. Absolutely recommend it! ( )
It is well written. It is a page turner. Although a little predictable there are definitely twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Not great literature but a fun book and I would recommend. ( )
Well, one has to read it when there is so much hype ;) It was OK but am not sure why it seems to have reached so many readers. I enjoyed it but I was never "I can't wait to find out what happens". I liked the dragons and the characterisation was pretty solid as was the plot particularly towards the end. But I didn't think it was the best thing since sliced bread. ( )

To Aaron.
My own Captain America.
Through the deployments, the moves,
the sunniest highs, and the darkest lows,
it's always been you and me, kiddo.
Here's to the artists.
You hold the power to shape the world.

Conscription Day is always the deadliest. Maybe that's why the sunrise is especially beautiful this morning - because I know it might be my last. -Chapter One
