In the past 31 years, there has been a lot of ink--actual and virtual--spilled on the subject of the Necronomicon. Some have derided it as a clumsy hoax; others have praised it as a powerful grimoire. As the decades have passed, more information has come to light both on the book's origins and discovery, and on the information contained within its pages. The Necronomicon has been found to contain formula for spiritual trans-formation, consistent with some of the most ancient mystical processes in the world, processes that were not public knowledge when the book was first published, processes that involve communion with the stars. In spite of all the controversy, the first edition sold out before it was published. And it has never been out of print since then. This year, the original designer of the 1977 edition and the original editor have joined forces to present a new, deluxe hardcover edition of the most feared, most reviled, and most desired occult book on the planet.… (plus d'informations)

I remember when I was young and growing up, how I'd hear rumors about this evil, spooky, wicked book called the Necronomicon, even WORSE than the Satanic Bible. So naturally I remained intrigued until I finally bought a copy. Having already read a lot of Lovecraft and Crowley, I just couldn't believe what I saw when I opened the pages. Hahahahahaha!!! Great marketing job by the publisher. What a joke. The only bigger hoax I can think of is the antisemitic The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion (and it's rather dumbfounding to think lauded future CIA director William Colby was given one by a Nazi contact while he was stationed in Austria?, Switzerland?, and decades after it had been globally publicly debunked, sent emergency briefs back to Bill Donovan and the White House "proving" the Nazis were RIGHT about this giant secret Jewish conspiracy -- what a moron! And yet CIA director for far too long...). I recommended dropping a buck on the Satanic Bible for laughs, but this isn't even worth a dime -- don't waste anything on this loser. What a joke... ( )

This was a sad attempt to replicate the Necronomicon, a book that may, or may not, truly exist. Hilarious, but still one star in my book. ( )

This is a prop book, pure and simple, straight up prop for the Lovecract mythos. It has no literary value, but has appeal to lovecraftian collectors. ( )

Please do not combine with any Necronomicon not by "Simon." All books titled Necronomicon refer to the book H.P. Lovecraft invented as a literary device in his fictional world. Each one is unique. There is no definitive Necronomicon, nor is there a "real" Necronomicon. The version by "Simon" presents a system of magic based on Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos, faux Sumerian, and medieval European grimoires.
(added by setnahkt - all verions of the Necronomicon are ostensibly by "the mad Arab" Abdul al-Hazred; "Simon" merely claims to be an editor).
Also, unofficially, known as the "Simonomicon". Properly by "Simon", not Aleister Crowley
