The two become friends instantly and pretty much can't take them apart. A promise was made that the two will be friends forever. Unfortunately, this promise was broken by Corky, for he unfortunately died an inevitable death. To alleviate Micheal's sadness, anger, and everything between, his mother tells him that Corky might not be there with you [physically], but the good times and memories you had with Corky will always be forever. In this book we are introduced to Micheal when he is young and gets a puppy named Corky. He becomes fast friends and the two are inseparable, Michael communicates with Corky and believes that the two make plans to be together forever. As time moves on, the two grow older and one day Michael comes home and Corky is gone. He learns that he is very sick and is at the veterinarian, then the next day Corky dies. Michael is very sad, then very mad that Corky broke his promise. His mother helps him remember that Corky the dog is gone, but Corky your friend will always be alive inside your heart. Mike decided that they would be best friends forever, and that would be their forever plan. And for many years it worked. One day, Mike came home from school and Corky was very sick and stayed at the vet all night. That night, Mike comforted himself by remembering their forever plan, and knowing that it wasn't the end of forever. The next day he found out Corky died. Over the next weeks, he felt alone, sad, and angry. He told his mom about the forever plan, and how Corky had broken his promise. She reminded him of all the fun he'd had with Corky, and told him that through his memories of Corky their forever plan would still work.
