Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:"I love this bookâ??funny, perfect and wonderfully good. A not-to-be-missed delight." â??New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery
With echoes of classic Hollywood love stories like Serendipity and An Affair to Remember, Viola Shipman's latest winter charmer following the USA TODAY bestseller The Secret of Snow is sure to tug on heartstrings and delight readers who love books about books, missed connections and the magic of Christmas.
Despite losing her parents in a tragic accident just before her fourteenth Christmas, Susan Norcross has had it better than most, with loving grandparents to raise her and a gang of quirky, devoted friends to support her. Now a successful bookstore owner in a tight-knit Michigan lakeside community, Susan is facing down fortyâ??the same age as her mother when she diedâ??and she can't help but see everything she hasn't achieved, including finding a love match of her own. To add to the pressure, everyone in her small town believes it's Susan's destiny to meet and marry a man dressed as Santa, just like her mother and grandmother before her. So it seems cosmically unfair that the man she makes an instant connection with at an annual Santa Run is lost in the crowd before she can get his name.
What follows is Susan and her friends' hilarious and heartwarming search for the mystery Santaâ??covering twelve months of social media snafus, authors behaving badly and dating failsâ??as well as a poignant look at family, friendship and what defines a well-lived and well-loved life.

I loved this winter story of Christmas and love. Viola Shipman is back at the top of their game! Susan's parents and grandparents always had a special relationship with Christmas, the women meeting their husbands when they were wearing Santa suits. Susan is named after the child in Miracle on 34th Street. So, she is hoping for the same fairy tale of hope and joy that comes with the magic of Christmas. It is not happening and now she is turning 40, her friends and family try to help her find the Santa of her dreams. After multiple attempts she is ready to give up. Not until she can open her heart and forgive the man that caused the accident that killed her parents, does she start to heal - and is able to find love.
Loved it!
I also enjoyed the bonus story of A Sugarplum Christmas. ( )

This reviewer is a sucker for any fiction that takes place in Michigan, and A Wish for Winter is set in Petoskey, right around the tip of your pinky if you use your hand as a map of the mitten. The characters are endearing and kind, the setting is familiar and beautiful, and the story is charming. Rouse moves skillfully between present day and the past, not an easy feat.

This would make a great Hallmark Christmas movie, and given the upward trajectory of the Viola Shipman brand on a regional and national level – and also given the quality of writing – we shouldn’t be surprised when it happens.

Why only 4 stars (which is still actually very good)? No spoilers, but I figured out the ending too early, and that generally costs a star with me. Regardless, I didn’t want to say goodby to these characters; I’d love to read a sequel. I’d especially like to know what happened in one character’s life that appeared to change her so much. ( )

A perfect read for the winter with a cup of tea curled up with a blanket! I save Viola Shipman (Wade Rouse) books for when I need a book about family, holidays and books! Don't miss the short story at the end? A Sugarplum Christmas! ( )

Susan is approaching middle age fast and she is still struggling with the loss of her parents when she was a teenager. She was raised by her grandparents and they are still a major part of her life. But, they are aging and she just can’t face losing someone else. As 40 approaches, Susan realizes she has not met the man of her dreams. Even though she owns a successful book store, Susan knows something is missing from her life. And her quirky friends are going to help remedy this situation.

Viola shipman has recently become one of my go to authors. This book hit the Christmas spot! I loved Susan and her friends. And I know some of you will roll your eyes, but there are a lot of profound statements in this novel. It is not one of your cheesy Christmas romances. This story has a lot to say and Viola Shipman says it well!

Need a heartwarming, Christmas novel…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review. ( )

Tis the season for Christmas books and this was a nice start. Family, friends, loss, love, smiles and tears. This book has it all. As with all books by this author, his love of Michigan, Christmas and Family come shining thru.

Susan is a very likable character at a crossroad in her life. She is facing a big birthday, wishing things could be like they were, running her bookstore (I only wish there was a bookstore just like it around me). She has a core group of friends and family, but something is missing. She’s looking for her happily ever after, exactly like her parents and grandparents. The ending felt rushed and predictable, but it didn’t take away the good feeling intended.

Thanks to Viola Shipman, Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone. ( )
