Another fine example of science through poetry. I probably need to create a new tag for these. The creatures and elements of the arctic are taught through poem verse. ( )

This was a great poetry collection about Arctic animals. The writing was strong and the illustrations were nicely detailed and realistically portrayed. The section at the end of the book titled Arctic Facts was full of snippets of useful information about the animals that were the subject of the poetry. Good book. ( )

This book of poetry, incorporating facts about the animals, along with easy to read poetry is a unique way to get information across to children.

It is narrative poetry, which gives a sequence of events.

Ages 7-9 because this age group is beginning to wonder about the world around them. It is a good age to introduce different ecologies than where they might live. Introduces new species of animals –gives new vocabulary. Appendix in back of book supports new vocabulary by giving a short bio on each animal (even snow fleas) mentioned throughout the book.

I would introduce this fun book of educational poetry as a science project to children. We could do a little more research on how these animals depend upon this ecosystem. The illustrations are simple yet give a wealth of information. The reader’s eyes are drawn into the northern world of these animals.
