This is a good reference book, but not for beginners. It is a comprehensive guide to many aspects of taxation and should be treated as a reference rather than something you can digest from front to back.
Some of the recommendations are geared toward people in high-income brackets, and some are not practical. Sometimes it feels like they are listed just to fill out space rather than really help. There is also a lot in the book that seems like fluff and references to outdated code. Also, the information is listed as tips rather than instructions on 'how' to apply some of the recommendations.
I like how the book is organized. It is easy to find things, and it is designed well. However, the author has been pretty much updating just pieces of it each year and not changing much from year to year (keeping many old references too), which to me is not with the taxpayer in mind.
Borrow the book from the library as it is updated each year and just reference the sections that apply to you. Don't get boggled up with tips and ideas that are not practical and unfamiliar. If you are not sure about something, check with a professional because you are responsible for your tax returns. ( )
