Independent Reading Level: Grades k-2

This colorful and cheery book follows a large creature who has the same routine every day and likes things just the way they are. Then the large creature encounters a smaller creature and tries to teach him the routines he follows. The smaller creature follows the habits at first but then decides to break the mold and do things his own way. The large creature is overwhelmed by this initially until he discovers that he can try and even enjoy new things. This book opens up the opportunity for great conversations with students. The text is easy to follow and relatable. The illustrations are fun and cheerful and students will enjoy reading about the creatures and how they find a new way together.

As an Enneagram 6, I resonate with being a creature of habit. Routines are comforting. And yes, I admit to getting bogged down in them sometimes.....just as Creature does. This book should help with the the reminder that habits are good. But so is shaking it up a bit! ( )
