Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A special holiday wish list brings about hope, love, and second chances in this nostalgic novel from the queen of Christmas stories, Debbie Macomber.
Lindy Carmichael isn’t feeling particularly joyful when she returns home to Wenatchee, Washington, for Christmas. The man she thought was “the one” has cheated on her with her best friend, and she feels completely devoid of creativity in her graphic-design job. Not even carolers or Christmas cookies can cheer her up—but Lindy’s mother, Ellen, remembers an old tradition that might lift her daughter’s spirits.

Reading through a box of childhood letters to Santa and reminiscing about what she’d wished for as a young girl may be just the inspiration Lindy needs. With Ellen’s encouragement, she decides to write a new letter to Santa, one that will encourage her to have faith and believe just as she’d done all those years ago. Little does Lindy know that this exercise in gratitude will cause her wishes to unfold before her in miraculous ways. And, thanks to some fateful twists of Christmas magic—especially an unexpected connection with a handsome former classmate—Lindy ultimately realizes that there is truly no place like home for the holidays.

In Dear Santa, Debbie Macomber celebrates the joys of Christmas blessings, old and new.

It's time for me to part ways with Debbie Macomber. It's probably me: I've grown too jaded for her syrupy-sweet stories and somewhat-simplistic writing style. This one also had a heroine who blindly ignored a near-perfect solution for the majority of the book, so that didn't appeal to me either.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoy a Hallmark-movie happy ending as much as the next person. I'm just not content reading it anymore, I guess. Au revoir, Debbie Macomber, and Godspeed. ( )

I'm betting it's already a Hallmark Christmas Movie (LOL!). I've read other books by this author and while she's not a favorite (because in some of her books, I feel she pushes the boundaries of appropriateness with her dating couples) when I saw this on the library's sale shelf, I decided to purchase it.

I pretty much knew the ending within the first third of the book, but I still enjoyed it. Lindy comes home for Christmas and her mother presents her with a box of Lindy's childhood letters to Santa. We're not told if Lindy's mother saved all the letters Lindy wrote to Santa or just a select few. It seems Lindy's mother has read through these letters before giving them back to Lindy also.

Where Macomber attributes events following to coincidence or to Santa, if it were real life, I would say God was directing the events. (Since it's fiction, we know that Macomber is sculpting the plot.)

Lindy's mom suggests Lindy write a new letter to Santa--and shortly after, things start happening in Lindy's life that reflect some of the wishes she expressed in the letter to Santa. ( )

I look forward to Debbie Macomber’s Christmas novel every year for the cozy sense of family, warmth, and seasonal good cheer every book brings. ⛄ ( )

Lindy heads to her small hometown after a breakup to spend the holidays with family. There, her mom Ellen shares her old letters to Santa, notes and wishes Lindy made as a kid when hope was more plentiful. It is a sweet premise and when Lindy writes a new letter to Santa to help her combat her present-day blues, you can only hope things go her way. Fun characters and predicaments, a fun, quick holiday read. ( )

I found Dear Santa to be a delightful story with engaging characters, holiday ambiance and clean romance. When I finished reading this book, I came away with a holiday warmth in my heart and a big smile on my face.

I highly recommend Dear Santa by Debbie Macomber ~ 5 STARS!

I received this book for free. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own. Thank you to Ballentine Books and Ms. Macomber for the opportunity to read and review this book. ( )
