This book is about a girl who gets ready for a dance that is important to her own culture. It encompasses themes of coming of age, tradition, and dance. I like this book because it provides a positive lens into ones culture and the customs of that culture! This book is great for students at an intermediate level. It is about a little girl named Josie who is getting ready for a powwow, which is a sacred dance celebrated within specific American Indian cultures. Throughout the story, Josie receives help as she picks out what she pieces together in her outfit for the dance. At the end of the story, she participates in her first powwow. I would love to introduce this book to my classroom so that my students learn about this beautiful culture and its people. This book is written by Denise Lajimodiere and is illustrated by Angela Erdrich. These ladies are both members of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. The book shares a story about a young girl named Josie. Josie is getting ready for a powwow and needs Kookum to help. Readers will learn about some of the cultural aspects of the Ojibwe people. There are some Ojibwe words that are introduced in the story. This is a great book to learn about the Ojibwe culture. this book is about a little girl who is getting ready to do her first dance, this dance is specific to their culture and is super sacred. She is getting the help from her family to create all the cool things that she gets to wear and the name that she will receive. I would use this book in second grade, the reason for this is because although it is a cute story, you need to pay attention because it is informative. This book is great for earlier elementary age students because it is an easier picture book read and allows students to get familiar with different cultures. This book is about Josie a Native American girl who practices her dance steps and gets help from her family in preparation for her first powwow. In a class this could be used to introduce the culture and give insight into maybe some of the students cultures. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
