HTML: Wanted: American nanny for an adorable four-year old. Must be able to handle a moody, brooding, sexy British boss. I'm a single father, a lawyer and some say the most serious man in London. I'm completely focused on raising my four-year-old daughter. Since my wife walked out three years ago, the only woman who has ever caught my eye is the strictly off-limits sister-in-law of my best friend, Autumn Lumen. But temptation is easy to resist because Autumn is only visiting London from Oregon. Until she moves to London. The nanny quits. And she's the only woman for the job. Mr. Smithfield is a stand alone novel in the Mister Series. I recently discovered this author and have fallen down the rabbit hole where she is concerned. There is something special about the way that she creates her characters. Not only are they authentic and unique but they seem relatable which is an impressive feat considering that Gabriel is anything but relatable when it comes to the wealth that he has.
Even though this was technically a nanny/single dad romance, and one of the selling points as to why it read this, it was so much more than that. From the start, there was something about the connection that Autumn and Gabriel shared. The daughter, Bethany, and the reasons they were actually connected seemed to be much more in the background than what one would think a nanny romance would entail. I didn't mind that because I enjoyed watching this connection grow. There were a lot of cute moments and a couple of swoony moments.
I did have an issue with the whole Penelope thing. I wanted that fleshed out more, especially in regard to what her initial expectations were. It just seemed to come together too smoothly for it to have been such a big part of the story arc. That being said, this was still a good story and reminded me that I was right to fall in love with this author. I look forward to what she is going to do next. ( )
