There are few sections that I wish had just a bit more nuance (such as the STI section and the commentary on kinks and porn), but overall, a strong resource for teens. One other note, I wish the order of the book was a little different, with more information on cementing one's relationship with oneself coming BEFORE all the information about what sex is. I unfortunately have to get rid of this book from my high school library because of the graphic images (which I don't have an issue with but I know parents would). At first I really liked this book and thought it was super informative and some of the information is, but I do think that some of the advice isn't appropriate for high schoolers. This book would be better for college students I would say. This book has a good chapter on consent and one or two speech bubbles on STIs. It also blames poor body image on white models, embraces the lie that gender is defined by "the society and the culture you live in" (all societies and cultures know there are two genders), does not, as far as I can find, suggest talking with a parent, does suggest finding "interviews with your favorite porn performers, go to the sites they recommend and pay for your porn" and that porn stars are real humans who deserve your respect and that porn is a " sugary treat". The internet is " a great place to research fantasies and kinks safely" and " there are tons of people and communities out there who share your interests and have all kinds of advice". No mention of watching for predators or the legality of adults grooming children or what to do if you come across porn that involves minors or violence. There is a chapter on if you're in an abusive relationship and it does mention talking to "family" and the police. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

I also think it's great that LTAI takes a kind approach, especially as topics around sexuality often get flagged as taboo with fearmongering, which could make it scary for someone young to even seek out information, leading to uninformed adults and knowledge is power! The abuse checklists also are useful for examining your own behavior and those around you as well, also an important topic for interpersonal relationships. ( )
