This is a very sweet book about dealing with when your day just doesn't go the way you expected. We have all been there -- each thing individually isn't a big deal but piling them up all together equals a really bad day where nothing has gone correctly or as planned. (In fact, I think this book pairs really nicely with Saturday by Oge Mora, which has a similar storyline of weekend activities going awry.) It's reassuring for young (and old) readers to be reminded that sometimes there's still something good to take away from a bad day.
This title is part of a loose series featuring Yoomi, the anthropomorphic cat who is the main character here. Although the characters are all animals of some kind, it's clear that the book is steeped in Korean culture, as evidenced right there in the title. That makes this picture book a good option for libraries, classrooms, and homes looking to diversify their bookshelves and reflect different cultures as windows and mirrors. ( )
