Recovery from stroke is lifelong journey full of many ups and downs. Any survivor or caregiver will tell you that, and too often many simply stay down and accept a life that has changed. Instead, The Luckiest Girl in the World shows any survivor or person facing obstacles how to take on a challenge and come out a winner. Jamie provides a very mature and hopeful account of her stroke recovery, and guides the reader through both the physical and emotional stages (of stroke recovery) which even many adult survivors have trouble discussing. Her book and all the valuable lessons it includes should become a "must read" for all students to improve stroke education in the schools and foster better communication and understanding about brain injuries.

Then, on August 9, 2008 I suffered a stroke during a hockey game. No one suspected that such a thing could happen to a twelve-year old, but as the reality of pediatric stroke turned my dream into a nightmare, the journey back to skating and playing hockey again showed me just how much I could accomplish with the love and support of my family and people all around me who cared.
And I came to realize that I truly was the luckiest girl in the world." ( )
