Neither one is looking for romance, but as they work together to solve the mystery of Lachlan’s inheritance, they can’t help but grow closer together. Will they trust in each other and risk their hearts or will the past prove too insurmountable? Definitely one clean historical romance you need to read! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. The audiobook was fantastic. I loved the way the narrator distinguished each of the characters. I also loved the Scottish brogue. A widow named Christina needs protection from the nefarious clansmen of her late husband. A Highlander named Lachlan is sworn to see justice done to the same clan, who were responsible for the death of his father and the seizure of his home. Good if you like the marriage of convenience trope! First in a series, and I’m somewhat intrigued to continue it! Feels like a somewhat fresh setting compared to all the Regency-based books I often consume. (
