Ryan Parrott’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles offers the martial arts franchise crossover that kids of the 1990s had been imagining since they were children, though he does it far better than the 1998 televised crossover between Nina Turtles: The Next Mutation and Power Rangers in Space. Simone di Meo’s art matches Parrott’s story, as the two depict the Rangers traveling to New York City to locate Tommy, the Green Ranger, who has secretly infiltrated the Foot Gang in order to try to rescue a friend of his. Shredder knows of Tommy’s secret identity and of the Power Rangers’ abilities through his allies in Dimension X and plans to steal the Dragonzord power coin in order to corrupt it to his will. Rita Repulsa seeks to reclaim the coin, but finds herself in an uneasy alliance with Shredder in order to gain the other five. Meanwhile, the Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles must work together and learn from each other to defeat their foes. The story successfully captures the best of both franchises in a perfect celebration of nostalgia and their continued cultural impact. ( )
