This is first book ive read by this author and I really enjoyed it!

The Papi (Silver) being younger was a great dynamic and it totally worked for this couple.

Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was I kinda wanted to see Donovans family realise their business is nothing without him..like an epilogue ( )

Donovan Fonterra has lived his life hiding who he is while doing all the work at his family’s firm so his younger brother can chase after women and his father can drink and golf with his friends. He does all this while being harassed and belittled by the other two men in his family. I hated his family about two seconds after I met them...then he has a chance meeting with Silver Cruz, when his sports car breaks down, an unfortunate event in one way but an event that will change his life, forever. We get to take that trip with Donovan as he changes and grows under his "Papi’s" (Daddy) care. He was such a miserable man without much self-respect in the beginning of the book. He was so afraid to let himself be who he was and allowed himself to be controlled by his family.... which I was ready and very willing to kill before the third chapter. Silver allowed and encouraged him to discover who he was and allow "his boy" to grow and shine. I love Morticia Knight's work and I believe I am close to owning every word she has ever put on paper.... this was certainly not an exception. I cheered when Donovan finally stood up to his toxic father and useless brother letting them know that he would no longer endure their emotional abuse, and what a joy it was to watch how he and Silver grow and thrive as a couple. The only drawback keeping this one from getting the usual 5-star rating was the ending that came way too abruptly. Also this one had way less sex and very little of the BDSM that this author usually allows her characters. I just wanted to eat Silver up... (in a good way), for his total care and nurturing side. Overall...another great story with wonderful characters by this author. Write faster Ms. Knight. I still have empty space on my bookshelves. ( )

Boy Issues is the first book in the ‘Command & Care’ series. It stars Silver Cruz, a mechanic of high-end cars, and Donovan Fonterra, a billionaire CEO. The story is told in third person from both Silver and Donovan’s pov.

First, I’ll talk about the cover. It’s simple, but it does a good job of matching the characters’ looks.

I can’t remember the last time I read any Daddy/boy stories but this one caught my attention because it’s younger Daddy and older boy. I don’t normally read this genre because the boy is usually too infantile and it’s just about submission and Dominance without any of the relationship dynamics. But this story was different. The author did a great job with emphasizing that Silver wanted to guide, care, and take on the burden for any of Donovan’s troubles. The book is mostly about Donovan opening up and how he settles into his role as a boy to a younger man. There is sex in this story, but not much. This is a slow paced, character driven plot.

Silver and Donovan are distinct characters that the author kept consistent in their personalities throughout the length of the book. Silver is twenty-six and a mechanic of high-end cars at a private garage. The conflict for Silver happens later in the story with the owner. From the beginning Silver is confident and has his life planned out. He’s already been a Daddy to one partner and is looking for another. The author conveyed his Daddy personality well, but what I didn’t like is that there is no background as to what made him desire it. There’s no mention of his family background other than he had no family. No mention of events in his past that pulled him toward being a Daddy. A person’s past makes them who they are and it’s like Silver had no past. Adding to that, he didn’t do any personal growth in the story. He was static. Silver was like the perfect Daddy that never had to change and I found that unrealistic, which made it hard for me to connect to him.

Donovan had issues, a lot of issues. He was the CEO of an architectural firm with this father and younger brother and they were both emotionally abusive to Donovan. He pretty much sacrificed his own career to run the company. He was highly stressed and the tipping point came when his father ordered him to marry a woman. Donovan took a long drive and found Silver, and Silver changed his life. Silver helped Donovan gain confidence, gave him a sounding board, gave him comfort and Donovan started to blossom. This is where most of the action comes from in the story is Donovan’s emotional growth because there isn’t much outside adventure or sex.

Another thing I had a problem with the book was there was a lot of monologue, especially at the beginning. So much so, that my mind would wander and I’d have to put the book down and come back to it later. I think much of the monologue, which was mostly describing things and the environment, including physical motion, could have been removed. They were minor descriptions that only served to slow down the plot.

Since I read an ARC copy, there were numerous grammar mistakes that I’m hoping the author corrected before publishing.

I enjoyed Boy Issues for the distinct characters, but I enjoyed Donovan more because he was imperfect and grew. Whereas Silver was static and rather boring because of that. I give this book 4 Stars.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
