Like the title, the black song takes a black turn in this, the 2nd book of the Raven's Blade series. All of these books have been a bit on the grim side, the author does not try to make combat and war feel anything but harsh, but he takes it to a new level in this one. Vaelin Al Sorna is still on his quest to defeat the Darkblade - while desperately trying not to become just as bad. Vaelin and the other characters in this book - Sherin, Ellese, Alum, etc are all excellent and the action is good, but this dragged a bit, by design. The Darkblade is no idiot of an evil leader, so contesting against him is difficult, there are no easy answers here, no rings to be destroyed. Sort of. A really good, but a bit dark, epic fantasy. My thanks to the Author publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review. An absolute quality read the Author is a expert of this type of book, absorbing clever engaging intriguing and imaginative. Superb characters and some of the most gruesome action scenes since the last book I read by this Author, and there are plenty of them. This is the second book, and hopefully there are more to come, but would work as a standalone story. A master at work completely and utterly recommended. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"A matchless warrior is pitted against a near-God in the second epic installment of the Raven's Blade series. It has long been our lot in life, brother, to do what others can't. Vaelin Al Sorna was known across the realm as the greatest of warriors, but he thought battles were behind him. He was wrong. Prophecy and rumor led him across the sea to find a woman he once loved, and drew him into a war waged by the Darkblade, a man who believes himself a god--and one who has gathered a fanatical army that threatens all of the known world. After a costly defeat by the Darkblade, Vaelin's forces are shattered, while the self-proclaimed immortal and his army continue their terrible march. But during the clash, Vaelin regained some of the dark magic that once gave him unrivaled skill in battle. And though the fight he has been drawn into seems near unwinnable, the song that drives him now desires the blood of his enemy above all else.."-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

While I still feel like too much is missed if you haven't read past trilogies, this installment is definitely worth a read! ( )
