if i hadn’t read the takeover or that other book of her’s where the guys a judge i probably would’ve given this a solid 4 - definitely not a 5 just because i despise surprise pregnancy plots and i especially thought it was so unnecessary here when there were a trillion other things going on. this book tho.... it honestly is like an exact copy of those other two i mentioned by tl swan man like truly all she changed was the mafia part, so much of this felt wayyyyy too familiar for me to be blown away smh

coulda been great but turned out to be a bit too formulaic ( )

I was in the mood for some mindless romance reading...well, that moment has now passed (or rather been driven away) and I'll be back to my typical historical fiction/literary fiction choices. So here's my thoughts on this.

First, the positives: Look at the cover. I mean, he's got that main character, hunky look. Another positive was it was FREE through Kindle unlimited.

And, now the negatives: Think 50 shades. Except in this case, I'm going with 50 shades of formulaic. It was as if every possible angle of a romance novel was crammed into one story and the characters vacillated between those personalities and plots. In addition, none of them was even particularly likable. The cover didn't even help because the personalities were just so mediocre that he began to look less hunky and more "Hulky" (as in you wouldn't like me when I'm angry...which is most of the time!) Add to that, the language, the sex, the unbelievability of the mafioso line, and I am reminded why most people I know never steer into this genre. It may be a while before I return to it. ( )
