This second entry in the author's series Leafy Tom Adventures finds protagonist Phoebe, a young witch, travelling to other worlds with her wich family to seek out and battle malevolent forces which manifest themselves as vapors, shadows, and clouds. In addition, they possess other powers, such as impersonation, which make them quite difficult foes. Several characters come more to the forefront here than in the first book, notably the fey and helpful cat Argus and the Benny Hill-in-a-china -shop nascent witch Ormond. Phoebe and her witch mentors are again seconded by their tree ancestors, but they stay a little more in the background. This rather brainy contribution to the fantasy genre can be read independently or in conjunction with the earlier book and is both fun and intellectually rewarding.

A follow up to Leafy Tom, where Phoebe and her odd assortment of friends find themselves in an unknown place facing an unknown enemy. Phoebe is still not fully trained, so she must go into her first battles without all the skills, knowledge, and discipline she needs. Ormond must begin to face up to his own identity, and become a mature, well trained witch - at the age of eight. If they fail, the cost could be the entire universe. To succeed, Phoebe must learn not only about witch skills, but witch history. Astronomy, botany, mythology, and spelling are other skills she will need to tap into, and other than spelling, she has no knowledge base in those areas. With only witches, trees, and a cat to assist her, she must save the world from the most powerful form of evil ever known.
