Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me a copy of this clever suspense read! Initially, I thought the book was going to be an evenly-paced suspense with hidden plots. It may seem like that at first, but the author is just laying out a multi-layered plot that will hit you full-speed, so pay attention! Eva Hansen can't remember anything that happened the night she was struck by lightning. When she finds out her mother was murdered--possibly by her--Eva struggles to put the pieces back together. And with little help. The detective is not buying her "can't remember" story. The book also goes back in time to tell us how Eva's mother, Kat, got to this point in her life. I found her backstory very interesting, and again, one that you want to pay attention to every detail. Behind every lie is a story full of secrets, deceit, love, courage, and determination. Great read! This twisty thriller opens with a lot of murky scenes as Eva, who has been struck by lightning and is now being accused of having murdered her mother, struggles to remember what happened the night her mother died. Told in dual timelines, we explore Eva trying to piece together what happened in the present (including other past events where she’s had memory lapses) and Kat, her mother’s timeline, from when Eva was a little girl. Suffice it to say there are lots of surprises and this went in directions I wasn’t expecting! Loved the vivid descriptions and the wonderful sense of suspense. Trigger warning: Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. This was a 3.5 star at the very least. While it did have a LOT squished into the plot and I understand why other reviewers were turned off by that, I quite enjoyed it. It takes a good story to really keep my attention and this book did just that. Some of the links and surprises seemed unrealistic but it was still so entertaining. I can't wait to read more from this author! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. I'll post a longer one on my blog! aucune critique | ajouter une critique

HTML:From the USA TODAY bestselling author of Do No Harm and The Night Olivia Fellâ??an "emotionally charged mystery" (Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author)â??comes a thrilling new suspense novel about the insidious nature of family secrets...and their deadly potential. If you can't remember it, how do you prove you didn't do it? Eva Hansen wakes in the hospital after being struck by lightning and discovers her mother, Kat, has been murdered. Eva was found unconscious down the street. She can't remember what happened but the police are highly suspicious of her. Determined to clear her name, Eva heads from Seattle to Londonâ??Kat's former homeâ??for answers. But as she unravels her mother's carefully held secrets, Eva soon realizes that someone doesn't want her to know the truth. And with violent memories beginning to emerge, Eva doesn't know who to trust. Least of all herself. Told in alternating perspectives from Eva's search for answers and Kat's mysterious past, Christina McDonald has crafted another "complex, emotionally intense" (Publishers Weekly) domestic thriller. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell's I Found You and Karin Slaughter's Pieces of Her, Behind Every Lie explores the complicated nature of mother-daughter relationships, family trauma, and the danger behind long-h Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. This is a fabulous book.
Eva Hansen is the main character of this book. Eva wakes up in the hospital after being struck by lightning. She finds out her mother's been murdered and she's the main suspect. She doesn't think she could kill her mother, but she doesn't remember anything from the night. She decides to go to London (where her mom used to live) to see if she can find answers. She discovers some deeply held secrets her mom had and begins to wonder who she can trust to find out the truth.
Told in alternating perspectives of Eva's search for answers and her mom's mysterious past, the story is carefully woven together and ends with a definite twist. ( )
