Ask and Ye Shall Receive

I Dare You was one of my favorite books of 2018 but also one that gave me a lot of heart palpitations. There were so many twists and turns and unanswered questions that I felt like I was caught in the eighth level of purgatory. So, needless to say, I had been waiting on this continuation of the series because I needed these questioned answered like I needed air. This is a definite continuation of the story. It will not make sense if the first book has not been read.

This book is very different than the first book. there are a lot of flashbacks in the story. One part of me appreciated that because it reminded me of what had previously happened but the other part of me just wanted the story to get to the point. That being said, there was still a lot of things answered but just as one thing got answered another secret came out. That is the beauty of this author, she can play the long game better than anyone else. She constantly reminds me that not everything is as it seems. She is the queen at only showing what she wants to be seen and then leaves the rest underneath the surface just waiting to rise.

I appreciated the growth in some of the characters and also the mystery surrounding some of the others. There is still a lot of secrets to be exposed here and I look forward to the next book and finding out what those are. While this book didn't knock me on my behind like the first book (honestly if I had to pinpoint why it was so many flashbacks), it still has me sucked in.

So I enjoyed this, was it perfect? No did I enjoy it as much as "I dare you"? well no but this still had lots here to recommend reading it.
I suppose this is more like a companion read to the main event, one that manages to fill in most of the blanks that were left slightly open-ended previously.
I say most as there are still some unanswered conundrums that I really want answers to the main one being who is Bennet hooking up with? I do have some ideas but will be keeping that to myself for the moment.
What I liked about this the most was that we got to see a more humanised version of Cole as here he finally pays his penance and definitely eats some humble pie in regards to his previous treatment of Austin.
It was lovely to see Austin finally getting treated with the respect she deserved all along.
There were also plot twists here that surprised me and I also liked the conclusion in regards to Cole and Austin.
what I was less fond of here was the usual double standard where the boys were allowed to sow their oats without blame and the girls were vilified for exactly the same behaviour.
I really liked Becky and Deke's dynamic before and this just soured things for me slightly in regards to them.
So that's it really, not sure if I will be going ahead with Deke's story yet as I haven't quite decided.
Mainly because I am just a bit downhearted with the destroyed dynamic here.
Just a heads up this is not a standalone, you do need to read book one first.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of I Promise You (Dare Series, #2).
