Love Big has a great message but at times it felt a little too "wordy' to keep the attention span of my 6-year-old. I think this might be a great picture book to read with kids around the age of 7-8 because the writing and pages without text were wonderful for starting a dialogue about this important and timely topic.

I did love that it focused on the importance of kindness and supporting one and the illustrations were beautifully done. Thank you to NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for a copy of this book. ( )

Baboon returns and gets the animals on the savannah to learn to share and work together. They learn their lessons by growing up and loving others and helping them.

This was a cute read with excellent illustrations that the kids will love. Adults can have fun also as they look closely and pick up messages through the book. At the end of the book are activities that you can do with your family to share fun with others and to show love for them. ( )

Review of eBook

Hundreds of years have passed in the savannas of East Africa. The land is dry; the animals are hungry. But Baboon discovers a powerful secret and helps Rhino, Little Hare, the lions, and the Beetle find their courage and learn an important lesson. However, when the animals laugh at what they believe is a joke, Beetle gets hurt feelings, so Lion and Baboon write a special song for him. And, as the story ends, the animal friends shake pom-pons and celebrate with Baboon’s boom shake celebration.

This mythological fable, the second in a series [following “Dream Big”], reveals the new secret moody Baboon discovers. A footnote provides a brief fact about each of the animals as the young reader meets each of them. The story tells young readers to be kind and to share. Because they are made of star-stuff, they are extraordinary. A positive lesson in how to get along with others, young readers are sure to read this story over and over again.

Recommended.

Kronenberg's Love Big follows Baboon’s adventures on the African Savanna. Drought has come to the savanna, and the animals begin to grow mean and selfish as food becomes scarce. After seeing an act of kindness by Rhinoceros, Baboon sees how things change, and tries out his theory by helping Lion. Can Baboon help the other savanna animals learn the value of kindness? This was a cute read with lovely artwork. Baboon's lesson spreads, though each savanna resident learns something different. One important lesson is how to maintain your kindness even when people treat you nasty. At the end is a section of suggestions for kids on how to be kind to others. This would be a great addition to any classroom, or kid's library.

***Many thanks to Netgalley & Greenleaf Book Group for providing an ecopy in exchange for a fair and honest review. ( )
