Mia and Jake have known each other their whole lives. They've endured summer vacations, Sunday brunches, even dentist visits together. Their mothers, who are best friends, are convinced that Mia and Jake would be the perfect couple, even though they can't stand to be in the same room together. After Mia's mom turns away yet another cute boy, Mia and Jake decide they've have had enough. Together, they hatch a plan to get their moms off their backs. Permanently. All they have to do is pretend to date and then stage the worst breakup of all time -- and then they'll be free. The only problem is, maybe Jake and Mia don't hate each other as much as they once thought...… (plus d'informations)

I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy, so I enjoyed this even though it was predictable and a little melodramatic. The main source of melodrama was Jake's renunciation of his older brother Finn. It felt to me like Jake was overreacting to pretty understandable/forgivable behavior on Finn's part. And then overreacting to completely understandable/forgivable behavior on Mia's part. But romances need drama.

I was going to give it three stars, then just thinking about the ending made me smile so I'll bump it up to four. This is a good escape into a fun story with diverse characters. ( )

A light hearted YA romance - sweet and cute but short on substance. ( )

Serviceable, predictable, but cute all at the same time. Some of the inevitable time-wasting with Ben was frustrating, but I thought this was a nice, light-hearted story with cheesy banter. ( )

This was a very well done take on a much used trope. Mia and Jake's moms are best friends and since they live across the street from each other, their dreams of the two kids getting together grew from childhood. Now in high school, after years of car rides, dim sum Sundays and other shared family events the two can hardly bear each other. When Mia finally catches the eye of handsome Ben, she decides to band together with Jake to fool their moms into thinking their years long hopes have been realized, only to stage a big break up to dissuade them from future matchmaking. The book has it all, there are some deeper family issues explored, as well as a fun 'double' date scene that hit home for the pair. ( )
