Leslie Raymond spent the past two years wishing her life had taken a different turn. It's time for a fresh start, a move across the country, and a new set of rules to help heal her heart--no straight women, no women with kids, and no commitment. But when she meetsher new neighbors, the beautiful Erica and her special needs daughter, Siena, she struggles against the pull she immediately experiences. Erica Cooper has learned to rely only on herself. She knows most people don't stick around when the going gets tough. And when caring for a child with autism, the going can get tough fast. She is content with the quiet and emotionally safe life she's constructed, but when they are befriended by their kind, playful, and--damn it--really hot new neighbor, the walls protecting her heart threaten to crumble. So much for good intentions and firm resolutions--neither stand a chance when the stars align for love.… (plus d'informations)

When you see the Northern Lights or a unicorn, you are spellbound. Overcome with emotion, bursting to share your feeling and utterly lost for words. This book is like that. We’re left a blubbering mess of delight and feelings. Completely in love with every single character in this wonderful book.

This was really great.

It's the story of Leslie, Erica, and Erica's daughter Siena.

Leslie just has moved back to the neighbourhood where she grew up and next door to Erica and Siena. Siena is actually the first one Leslie meets and that causes some misunderstandings between Leslie and Erica to begin with, but, it's a romance so they do get by that eventually.

But, both Erica and Leslie have some serious baggage. Erica's relating to her being a single mom to Siena, who is on the Autism Spectrum. And Leslie's related to how she was totally destroyed after the end of a previous relationship.

One thing I loved about this book is how the main story and sub-stories all danced around each other so well. Everything feeds everything else without there being any big stops or starts. It just flowed.

Also, to me, the character of Siena was so amazing. I can't say how well she was written because I haven't spent a ton of time with Autistic children, but, I think she seemed well written?

I really liked this book on so many levels. And it was such a fast read because I was so engrossed.

I received this book via Netgalley thanks to Bold Strokes Books ( )

Leslie Raymond moves across the country and into her childhood home after a particularly bad breakup. She has rules now on how to guard her heart. Then she meets her next door neighbor’s child, Siena, and then meets her mother, Erica. She knows she may be in trouble. Erica has been forced to rely on herself and has learned to toughen herself not to even expect help, especially not from beautiful strangers like her next door neighbor. Both women, however, must rethink their rules – but it’s not easy.

In this book, Levig has created two appealing women, both in their 50s, but the stars of the show are Erica’s daughter, Siena and the dog she loves, Gus. The author moves the story along at a leisurely pace adding more and more layers to the characters as they begin to lower their walls to each other. When the walls slam back in place, when Siena is injured, the reader will want to speed through the story to get those good feelings back knowing these two characters are meant for each other. But are they?

In spite of the above, the book is flawed – not fatally, by any means, but flawed nevertheless. For instance, Levig added an Epilogue that took away from the true ending, the last chapter of the book – the Epilogue stole the sweetness of the ending. ( )
