This is the story of Sawyer and Aribelle on the world of Aerthe. When she first meets Sawyer, her fear of him makes Aribelle do something foolish - she orders her men to cut off his balls. This is not an auspicious beginning. In spite of her castration notions, when a Scav warband comes calling he saves her life. Ex-special forces, calculating, and slow to anger, Sawyer is also slow to cool down. Aribelle has definitely riled him. His plan: to rise above slavery, to become a big man in this strange new world, and to find his sister, Fern. As for Aribelle, she owes him and he intends to cash in the debt. She's his, no matter how she much she wriggles and squirms. With war brewing, with a JI-mech almost dying at his feet, and with a girl to claim, things are about to get interesting for this one human man in a world of warriors, mechlings, and the landships of the Swathe. Inspired by the Gor series by John Norman… (plus d'informations)

Cari Silverwood has brought us back to Aerthe, that world where abducted humans aren't considered really people. When humans are pulled through the portal to Aerthe, their nails and hair become polished, making it hard for them to get away from anyone, they are very obvious.

One Aerthe, there are three distinct groups, the Mekkers who are always on the move, the Grounders, who live in villages, and the Scavs, who are nomads who do a little bit of everything, including selling slaves and scavenging in ruins. Sawyer, one of the humans that was abducted through the portal, has been a slave to the Grounders. He's in a Grounder caravan run by Ari's uncle. When he first sees her, he tries to get free, and she threatens to castrate him. Before that happens, they are raided by a group of Scavs. Sawyer works on getting in an with them and claims Ari.

Cari creates such wonderful worlds. You can practically smell and touch Aerthe. Sawyer, our hero, isn't perfect. He's a human man, with human failings, include anger and the desire for vengeance. He has to battle himself and figure out who he is. Ari isn't perfect either. She has her own issues and dealing with her own stuff isn't any easier for her, even if she's from Aerthe. Such a great book and a great addition to the series. Each book adds more to the world and fleshes it out even more. I can't wait to find out more about this world and to read the next installment in the series. ( )

Read as part of the complete Machinery Of Desire series set available from Amazon.

I enjoyed this more than the first book. Cari writes D/s really well and the world-building here is great, great enough that I actually said "world-building" in a review!

Read the trigger warnings, if you feel you can handle it then *do* check out this series. Very recommended! ( )

Great addition to the first book. While, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one (I didn't connect with the characters as well) I still liked exploring this world. I especially liked the twist in the ending.
