Now I need to add some Amish and Christian authors to my fan base as the story was a REFRESHING change of pace! I liked that Maria Mast was smart enough to run from her abusive boyfriend as she feared that one day he'd keep his word and kill her leaving her son without a mother. I LOVED that Agent Derek Turner learned to love again after his wife had been murdered for revenge since he was the one to put the creeps brother away with a very long prison sentence. Someone is stalking Maria and her son and they have to duck and dodged as the stalker seemed to be one step ahead of them all the time! ( ) Amish Under Fire by Ashley Emma is the second novel in Covert Police Detectives Unit series. Maria Mast and her son, Carter have been running from her abusive ex-boyfriend for two years. After helping thwart a bank robbery, Maria ends up on the news and Trevor quickly tracks her down. Maria contacts the Covert Police Detective Unit in Portland and Agent Derek Turner is assigned the case. It turns out that Trevor is involved in a human trafficking ring and they can use Maria’s help in finding the ring’s headquarters. The sting does not go as planned, but Trevor does end up in jail. Maria then feels free to return home to Unity with her son, Carter. Someone, though, is after her and they mean business. Derek and a fellow agent are assigned to protect Maria and her son. They even wear Amish clothes, so they can blend in with other people in the community. Derek means to keep Maria safe especially since it is the same men who killed his wife, Natalia. Derek is drawn to the peace of the Amish people, their sense of faith and to Maria. Will they succeed in catching these dangerous men? Is there a chance of a future between Maria and Derek? Amish Under Fire is well-written and an engaging story. I was drawn in to this romantic suspense book from the beginning. There is plenty of action that keeps the reader moving steadily towards the end (in other words there is a steady pace). I could feel the suspense and tension. The romance and conclusion were expected, but it did not hinder my enjoyment of Amish Under Fire. My favorite part of the story was the theme of forgiveness. It is a challenge to forgive someone who has harmed you, but it will certainly lighten your burden. Amish Under Fire can be read alone. I have not had the pleasure of reading Undercover Amish (first book in series) and I had no trouble with Amish Under Fire. If you are looking for a different type of Amish novel, then pick up Amish Under Fire. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
