"Harmony House is more than a "special place for special people." It's a think tank where high-functioning autistic savants harness their unique abilities for the benefit of society. Resident Eddie Parks' contribution is nothing less than extraordinary: an "echo box" that can re-create never-recorded sounds using acoustic archaeology. All Eddie wants is to hear his late mother's voice. But what he's created is inadvertently posing a threat to national security. To Harmony House's shadowy government backers and radical extremists, the echo box is the ultimate intelligence asset and an end to the very concept of secrecy. Now for Eddie and the compassionate Dr. Skylar Drummond, the true nature of the institution is becoming chillingly clear. As ruthless competing enemies close in on Eddie and his miraculous machine, Skylar risks all to take him on the run. Because once that prize is won, Eddie Parks will no longer be considered a "special person" but a dangerous redundancy. An inconvenient echo that must be silenced."--Amazon.com.… (plus d'informations)

I enjoyed this mystery with a mix of "big brother watching" and governmental meddling. It is fast paced and easy to read with the main character being a likable autistic guy that gets caught up in the 'real world' outside his usual sheltered life. The lady doc who understands and helps him is well drawn with enough back story to help us understand why she's so suited to her job. I like the way the autistic man is portrayed and described - it actually helps me understand a bit more. I found it insightful (but I don't know anyone with Asberger's so I'm not really sure how accurate the portrayal is).

The bad guys are standard bad guys and are vanquished without the doc having to suddenly develop extraordinary fighting skills (I always hate when authors do that....give a skill set outside what a normal person would have). It's perfectly set up for a follow up book.

Recommended for people who like an unusual spin on a traditional theme of governmental interference and control and manipulating behind the scenes. ( )

Boilerplate tech thriller built on implausible pseudoscience, and leaning heavily on clichéd--and frankly, old-fashioned--autism tropes. It's also unashamedly the first part in a series: don't expect any closure at the end. ( )

This was a story about a main character on the autism spectrum who has invented a most unique device to replay past conversations that occurred in rooms. All he wants is to hear his dead mother’s voice, but others have devious plans for the device. This was a well-written quick read with more complexity than expected. ( )
