Making Waves is a fun read!: I really enjoyed the author's style of writing from each character's viewpoint. The style reminds me of Sue Monk Kidd's "The Secret Life of Bees." It held me in its grip until the very end, which was the only disappointing part. I wish the author would have spent more time developing the ending. It all happened too abruptly. I thought this story could have gone on much longer. I'd love to see her write a sequel. Ghastly. I own up to actually completing this terrible, cliched mess, and I blame it on temporary insanity with a good dose of masochism. I like a good story set in the South, but this one was such a Hee Haw parody. The best passage that I love to hate: "I love to eat out. Usually we go to Tuscaloosa or Columbus, though, where they have nice restaurants like Shoney's." Yeah. Because us Southern folks just love to go to the Kmarts and then to the fine dinin' buffet at the Shoney's. Insulting. I hate this book. I had already read The Same Sweet Girls by Cassandra King and loved it, so I was a bit disappointed in Making Waves. But I believe this was Ms. King's first book so I know her writing improves. I generally read an author's first book and work my way through. Now I know why! The characters were well drawn and fully fleshed out. But the story was just a little off kilter and I found the ending a disappointment. However, given that this is her first work and I loved the other book I read of hers, I will dedfinitely read the rest of her works. And it's southern fiction, one of my all time favorites! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
The first novel by the author of acclaimed national bestseller The Sunday Wife, now reissued in paperback. In a small Alabama town in Zion County, life is finally looking up for 20-year-old Donnette Sullivan. Having just inherited her aunt's old house and beauty shop, she's taken over the business. Her husband, Tim, recently crippled in an accident, is beginning to cope not only with his disability but also with the loss of his dreams. Once a promising artist who gave up art for sports, Tim paints a sign for Donnette's new shop, Making Waves, that causes ripples throughout the small southern community. In a sequence of events -- sometimes funny, sometimes tragic -- the lives of Donnette, Tim, and others in their small circle of family and friends are unavoidably affected. Once the waves of change surge through Zion County, the lives of its people are forever altered. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
