I like the idea behind this book. It has very unique illustrations and it highlights the differences between cats and dogs. Or within dogs. I see myself using this book in my class as a introduction to academic language. ( ) In my opinion this book is serves its purpose. The big idea of this book is to compare dogs and cats well discussing the characteristics of different breads of both. Being that the book is a nonfiction text, I liked that the information found in the book was most accurate. It stated that dogs have been living with people for at least 14,000 years and that cats are natural hunters no matter what the size. The book goes on to list all different types of cats and dogs with their attributes. I also like the illustrations. They fit the written text. The pictures are big and take up most of the page so they enhance the facts that are in the text. For the most parts the illustrations are true to form with the type of cat or dog it represents. Dogs and Cats is a great informational text that introduces the reader to different breeds of dogs and cats. This book is an informational text with illustrations because the author includes facts about both dogs and cats. If you open the book as a regular book, from left to right, you will be introduced to “dogs”. The first half of the book is focussed on dogs, their environments, breeds and habits. When the book is flipped over to the back and read backwards, the text discusses different cats. This was a very interesting text feature that I appreciated because I loved that I learned about each animal before they were introduced to one another. In the center of the book, dogs and cats are shown together and the author explains how in the wild, the two species do not co-exists, however when raised together in a home, they are able to live together. I enjoyed reading this book and thought that the text features and illustrations allowed me to understand both species. Prior to reading the book I was a dog person, after reading this book, I remain a dog person. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"Are you a cat lover? A dog person? Either way, this book is for you! Read about how your favorite companion came to be a pet and how its body works. Then, flip the book over and find out about the other kind."--barnesandnoble.com Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
