This one was hard to read in the way that I usually read: which is, fast. Per Olov Enquist has a beautifully slow narrative style that is distant, plainspoken, but also quite sensual. After a while, I wanted to be in the characters' heads more, but I also had the desire to skim over the major plot events -- and yet, I still was struck by the occasional phrase that was so quietly beautiful I would sit and think on it. This probably meant I wasn't in the right headspace for this novel; hence, no rating. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

A visionary epic novel of faith, sex, and intrigue is offered by the author in the front ranks of contemporary literary fiction (Bruce Bawer, The New York Times Book Review).
