Johnstone Justice. What America Needs Now. In this exciting new series, bestselling authors William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone pay homage to America's trail-hardened backwoodsmen who, like a fine grain whiskey, only get better with age... REAL MEN DON'T RIDE INTO THE SUNSET In his mountain-man days, Elwood "Firestick" McQueen was practically a living legend. His hunting, tracking, and trapping skills were known far and wide. But it was his deadly accuracy with a rifle that earned him the Indian name "Firestick." His two best buddies are Malachi "Beartooth" Skinner-whose knife was as fatal as a grizzly's chompers-and Jim "Moosejaw" Hendricks, who once wielded the jawbone of a moose to crush his enemies in the heat of battle. Of course, things are different nowadays. The trio have finally settled down, running a horse ranch in West Texas-and spending quality time with their lady friends. But if you think these old boys are ready for lives of leisure, think again... Firestick is the town marshal. Beartooth and Moosejaw are his deputies. And when a hired gunman shows up with bullets blazing, these three hard-cases are ready to prove they aren't getting older. They're getting deadlier... Live Free. Read Hard.… (plus d'informations)

Title: Firestick (A Firestick Western #1)

Pages: 400
Year: 2020

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This story tells about three former mountain men who are now star packers in a town called Buffalo Peak. There is Marshal Elwood “Firestick” McQueen with his deputies Malachi “Beartooth” Skinner and Jim “Moosejaw” Hendricks. Along with keeping the peace, these three men have a ranch outside of town called the Double M where they raise horses with their hired help. They aren’t ones for sitting around and taking it easy. The town rowdies keep them hopping from time to time. Two of the main characters, Firestick and Moosejaw, have lady friends in town who are very strong frontier women. Beartooth is interested in the ranch cook, but so far nothing has blossomed.

Life is about to get intense for these men when a “gambler” shows up and right away gets accused of cheating. Add an older frontier woman who is seeking revenge against Firestick and another rancher for the loss of her one son, and soon bullets are flying. As if that isn’t enough action for you, there is a band of renegade Apache coming down from the mountains to take what they want and threaten the life of outlying families.

Travel to the Old West where life is a daily struggle, romance is blooming for three former mountain men and friendships are forged in the toughest of times. Johnstone country once again has written an entertaining drama filled with suspense, heart, and a spell-binding climactic ending! The journey with Firestick, Moosejaw and Beartooth continues in Blood and Bullets and a third installment due out in October of this year titled, Dead For A Dollar!

Every now and then I love to pull a western off my shelf and get lost for a couple hours. Okay, I pull them off my shelf to read a lot! Anyway, the Johnstone name should be right there with other well-known legends who wrote westerns very quickly as demand was high, and such is the fact today. Firestick is the first in a new series titled Firestick and it is a pure pleasure to enjoy!
In this new series, there are three former mountain men who see their time living high in the Rockies coming to an end. So, they come to a town and become sheriffs as well as owning a horse ranch together. Firestick is the head sheriff, while his partners are his deputies. There are rough and tumble times, riding, shooting, Indian fighting and busting lawbreakers!
I love how a tale can take me away for a couple of hours to the wild west and use my imagination to see the scenes play out in my head as I read. There is nothing more enjoyable than reading a great story with real lifelike men and the interesting women they begin to have feelings for all while trouble is popping up everywhere!
The second book in the series it titled, Dead for a Dollar, and I plan on enjoying that book soon! So, come back to see how the three men and their ladies are now faring in the town and in romance even with danger riding their trail! ( )
