Referred to as a magical realism fairytale for trans boys, this short story was truly magical. I can't really say much about it without revealing a twist, but damn, that twist/solution to the problem was really clever and amazing. Likeable characters, likeable families, sapphic parents, a Jewish protagonist, gay trans boys in love, this story had so many beautiful things I can't even count. Basically worth every penny, please read it. Two trans boys find each other due to a rumor scrawled in the school bathroom predicting Avi's imminent death (which is weird because Avi hasn't told anyone his name yet). A worthy #ownvoices depiction of two young trans people with their own spectrum of experiences--the protagonist, surly & struggling, contrasts his hopeful & sunny love interest. The magical plot took a while to bloom out, which was really too bad because now I want to hang out with these trans witches & their moms & their demon bff/wine aunt for at least another 100 pages. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Avi Cantor Has Six Months To LiveAvi comes across these foreboding words scrawled on the bathroom mirror, but what do they mean? Is this a curse, a prediction, or a threat from Avi's emboldened bullies? And how to they know his real name when he hasn't even told his mother yet? Then there is Ian—the cool new guy at school, who is suddenly paying attention to Avi. Ian is just like Avi, but he is also all sunshine, optimism, and magic. All the things that Avi doesn't know how to deal with...yet.A romantic, #ownvoices fairy tale for trans boys. Represented to me as "if you like Supernatural," and yup, agreed, only Supernatural makes me angry and bitter for all the things it could have been, while this is adorable and I'm in love. ( )
