Review: A Deadly Roast by Sophia Knight. 08/04/2018

If I rated this book about all the typos it would be nil. However, I have rated it for the subject matter. When your working in a coffee shop and an unknown person comes in and tells you that your father was just murdered and died than turns around and disappears as fast as he appeared. Callie Quick is dumbstruck. It didn’t take her long to leave work to go home to interrogate her mother about the person she knew as her father all her life was a lie.

Unknown to Callie her biological father lived in Louisiana and always wanted to be part of her life. He cherished her all those years from afar. After Callie heard about her mother’s big secret she decided to leave the big city of New York to go to a small town in Louisiana to meet the family she never knew. Callie was apprehensive at first but it didn’t take her long to get to know their personalities and what they thought of her. The new family members knew so much about her and loved her as if she was with them everyday. She was kept in this small town since she was born, though her childhood and now as an adult.

She was this families prodigy and she did grieve the lost of not knowing her real father but the members of the family gave her some answers to her questions. She decided she wasn’t a city girl and didn’t go back. She wanted the connection of having a real family so Callie found herself looking for a job, which was not needed because her biological father left her inheritance. One of the places she received was a small coffee shop and decided to change the décor and open her own coffee shop to the citizens. ( )

Cozy mystery tied up with one of my favorite things – coffee, especially designer coffees. Good thing it had coffee because the plot was transparent and the characters talked at the level of preteens. All this could have been forgiven if the author had had someone read her product before self-publishing, way too many errs in grammar and typos. ( )
