"An edge-of my sear immersion into historical events...No study of Alexander Hamilton would be complete without reading this book." â??Karen White, New York Times bestselling author

"The best book of the year!" â??Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Alice Network

Wife, Widow, and Warrior in Alexander Hamilton's quest for a more perfect union

From the New York Times bestselling authors of America's First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamiltonâ??a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. Perfect for fans of Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton and fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton: the Musical.

In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written novel, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza's story as it's never been told beforeâ??not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandalâ??but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.

A general's daughter...

Coming of age on the perilous frontier of revolutionary New York, Elizabeth Schuyler champions the fight for independence. And when she meets Alexander Hamilton, Washington's penniless but passionate aide-de-camp, she's captivated by the young officer's charisma and brilliance. They fall in love, despite Hamilton's bastard birth and the uncertainties of war.

A founding father's wife...

But the union they createâ??in their marriage and the new nationâ??is far from perfect. From glittering inaugural balls to bloody street riots, the Hamiltons are at the center of it allâ??including the political treachery of America's first sex scandal, which forces Eliza to struggle through heartbreak and betrayal to find forgiveness.

The last surviving light of the Revolution...

When a duel destroys Eliza's hard-won peace, the grieving widow fights her husband's enemies to preserve Alexander's legacy. But long-buried secrets threaten everything Eliza believes about her marriage and her own legacy. Questioning her tireless devotion to the man and country that have broken her heart, she's left with one last battleâ??to understand the flawed man she married and imperfect union he could never have… (plus d'informations)

Although fiction, I felt this book was well researched, and took me to the time and place in early American history, so seemed really authentic. I enjoyed this novel from start to finish and found I could hardly put it down. I gained a great insight to the early days of the formation of the United States and the important figures of those times. ( )

I received an advance reader copy of My Dear Hamilton from GoodReads. From the first page, I was hooked. There are very few books that hook me from the very first page and this was one of them.

My Dear Hamilton tells the story of Eliza Hamilton and her overlooked place in history. This book covers every angle of her life, from standing by Alexander Hamilton during difficult times, to her life as a mother and sister along with being a silent writing partner with Alexander during his life. I’ve read countless stories of Alexander and Eliza and their love story but this book is unique in the fact that I felt like a fly on the wall with every page turned. Stephanie and Laura brought readers into the story and made them feel like they were right in the room - a feat not easily done.

This book brought forth many emotions from me - tears, laughter, a strong want to throw it across the room from something one of the characters did and appreciation for what this family did for our young country.

In the end, I feel like Eliza’s story is finally being uncovered and she’s getting the praises she so rightly deserves. Her tremendous contributions to our country, both through her husband’s will and her own thoughts and accomplishments are forefront of this book and made me appreciative of the dedication the Hamilton family provided for our country.

This will be a book that I recommend time and time again to friends and family ( )

I have to start by saying I am not a "Hamilton" the musical fan (gasp.) But this novel left me wanting to know more about him and his compatriots. I enjoyed the telling from a woman's perspective, and learned a lot about that time period that I didn't know. Really made me love Washington and want to learn more about him and his wife. Very interesting how all the main players of the time come together. ( )

I won My Dear Hamilton from Library Thing's Early Reviewer program back in April 2018, but never received a copy from the publisher (William Morrow).  I picked up an e-book version when it was on sale for $1.99 in July 2019, using Amazon promotional credits.  The book still appeared on my Not Reviewed list (I've been an Early Reviewer since November 2007), so I decided to read and review it this month.

I really liked it.  I knew nothing about Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton (called Betsey as a child and young woman, and Eliza later in adulthood), and not much more about her husband Alexander Hamilton (other than, of course, his infamous duel with Aaron Burr).  I do now, after 652 pages of very readable historical fiction.
Eliza really comes alive and holds her own as as strong woman throughout the novel (as she did in early America).  I felt all the characters - Eliza's parents, sisters, children, and of course her husband - were well developed, given the first-person storytelling from Eliza's viewpoint.

Authors Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie did a lot of research, and explain at the end what is true and what is fiction.  Dray primarily writes historical women's fiction, while Kamoie's experience is in different types of romance (writing as Laura Kaye), although her educational and earlier employment background is in history.

And for what it's worth, you don't have to be a Hamilton! fan to enjoy this book.  I've never seen the musical. ( )

The promise of liberty is not written in blood or engraved in stone; it’s embroidered into the fabric of our nation. And so is Alexander Hamilton.
