Persecution is a human thing, and the werewolves in this book are, unfortunately, letting their human sides determine their behavior. Not only are they bigots and intolerant, they want more than to defend their territory—which is about the only thing every sensible wolf would do. These shifters want to make everyone who was born into their pack live by their rules. This story is about Max, one of the gay wolves persecuted for who he is. It is a story of growth and finding one’s courage, just as much as a great love story of mates meeting against all odds.

Max only wants to live his life in peace, but his pack won’t leave him alone. Their need to control everyone is so big that not even Max leaving and traveling thousands of miles north can stop them from wanting to make his life miserable. But Max is changing. Now that he has found Ulf, and has begun to trust him, he reconsiders his view of how things should be. I cheered him on all the way as he began to stand up for himself, no longer willing to let others tell him whom he can and cannot love. Well done Max!

Ulf is a lone wolf, and as shocked as Max to find he is attracted to the male invading his territory. Ulf doesn’t have any issues with two men mating, and he knows pretty much immediately that Max is meant to be his mate. The convincing takes a while, and Ulf has to pull out all the stops to make Max understand and believe, and the heat they generate in the process is considerable. Ulf knows he can and will defend his territory against any trespassers, and he takes great joy in teaching Max this fact as well.

If you like possessive alpha wolves who fight for an protect their mates against all odds, if you enjoy reading about an abused wolf/man learning to stand up for himself, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful as it is hot, then you will probably enjoy this novella. Okay, I admit it: it is hotter than tension -filled by far. Just right for two half-wild creatures who learn to work together, and find their human sides falling in love. ( )
