I liked for two reasons. The first reason is because each illustration labels each object in the picture with a tag that says the name. For example, Carlos goes to the market and on each picture of the food, there is a label with the name of the food on it. The second reason I like this book is because it is a fun way to teach a reading lesson. Since the words are scattered around the page, the reader will find the change in structure interesting and most likely will stay engaged with the text. The message of this book is to teach reading and build vocabulary in a fun and engaging way. ( )

Carlo likes Reading is a book aimed toward teaching young children to identify the relationship between written language and objects commonly known to children. The story is simple with only about five words per page. However, on each page is a detailed illustration with a name tag placed on each object in the environment. The reader can identify the objects in the illustrations along with the word that represents them. ( )

Carlos likes to read. Everywhere he goes, he reads. I like how the book has everything in the pictures labeled. I would do that around my classroom before reading the book. Or have the students help label, after reading the book. ( )

This was a very cute book for emerging readers. It is extremely simple in language and promotes a love of reading through the lens of “Carlo the giraffe”. First, the fact that the main character’s name is Carlo reflects multiculturalism and appeals possibly to English Language Learners. Each page starts with “Carlo reads…” and then a different setting that he reads in or person he reads to. Each page he is reading in has several objects that are each labeled. This is extremely interactive for young readers, as they can take each page and practice their sight words and see how many they can identify. Carlo reads to everyone in his family, including his cat “Crackers” which could inspire readers to go home and read to others in their family. Also, this could motivate readers to be more aware of their surroundings and realize that writing is all around you and that literacy can applied in all types of situations. The main idea of this book is promoting literacy for emerging readers. ( )

A colorful and absorbing way of learning to read with Carlo the giraffe! Carlo likes reading everywhere and everything. He reads his bedroom, his breakfast - he even reads his dad! That's because everything in his colorful world has a clear label attached with its name on it - slippers, Crackers the cat, fly, teapot, bin, grater and milk. Children learning to read can point, say and read through the day with Carlo, a sympathetic and likeable character. And if the reading gets frustrating, Carlo doesn't worry about it - he likes galloping too! ( )
