Originally published in the UK as Grandad's Secret Giant, and then in the USA as The Boy and the Giant, this lovely picture-book is the second title I have read from author/illustrator David Litchfield, following upon his marvelous debut, The Bear and the Piano. A gentle, poignant tale of learning to accept and welcome differences is paired with absolutely gorgeous artwork here, producing a picture-book worth reading. I loved Litchfield's artwork in The Bear and the Piano, and picked this one up in eager anticipation. I was not disappointed, as the visuals are just lovely, with beautiful colors, stylized figures and settings, and a general feeling of depth and mystery. Recommended to anyone who appreciates beautiful picture-books, or who is looking for children's stories featuring giants and/or making all kinds of people feel welcome. ( )
