Veronique Daventry absolutely believes in true love. When the baron she's corresponded with for years over long distance suggests they elope in Scotland, she eagerly assents. Perhaps she's never met him, but she's certain their souls are meant to be joined for eternity. Lord Miles Worthing is surprised when he is ushered to a chapel on a visit to Scotland and finds a beautiful woman. His happiness halts when her family discovers them in a compromising position. Veronique is devastated to have mistaken this stranger for her fiance. She needs to find the correct baron at once, but the only person who can help her is Lord Worthing.Contains mature themes. Matchmaking for Wallflowers #4
Hmmm… If you are looking for a historical romance that is highly unbelievable but a fun read then this book might be for you. Both hero and heroine are exaggerated in one way or another with Miles reminding me a bit of the cartoon character, Johnny Bravo. I am not sure who to liken Veronique to, though. The word that comes to mind is that she is an oxymoron in that she can seem so clever at times and yet so unwise at others. While reading I again would use the term “unbelievable” since I can’t see anyone in the early 1800’s choosing to take off as the two did in this story or to behave as they did at various time during the story. In some ways this felt a bit more like a spoof than a romance but all in all it was an entertaining read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC – This is my honest review.
