I expected romantic comedy with a very light tone. It is more of a contemporary romance. I love Desdemona's name, though. Given how big of a part Des and Hunter's past played, I would have liked to have seen more to do with that. I felt the end was a little rushed and anti-climatic. I would have also liked to have seen more with the whole Burt and Jenny scenario, since they both do make appearances later. I kind of hope they get their own story. ( ) REVIEW: Desdemona lost the real love of her life years ago. Now her recent ex has her losing her mind over his humiliating comments about her faked big O’s. On television, no less. Everyone seems to have suggestions and Desdemona even indulges in a few. Little does she know, her high school heart throb, Hunter, has been hiding behind his pen name version of her name. Time speeds up and lives collide with humor and angst. A fun read. This is my voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: Desdemona, a pianist in the Austin life-music scene, is channel-surfing when she stumbles upon the program Marriage Exposure. The trashy television show gets people to spill all the secrets of their sex lives, and Desdemona’s ex-boyfriend just happens to be a guest. To her shock and horror, Desdemona’s ex announces on national television that he dumped her because she never got the big O. “She faked…,” he says. Every single time. Her life is wrecked! If her friends, family and colleagues haven’t seen the interview yet, they will. How do you survive a scandal like this? How did he know she faked? And why is it that in the bedroom, Desdemona never, ever gets lucky? The lovable, creative and quirky heroine tackles these challenges. As Desdemona tries to run damage control on her reputation, she begins to explore her sexuality. Along the way, she will get a second chance at genuine love. FOR 18+ ONLY. For Desdemona, the horrifying embarrassment begins when she catches her last old boyfriend, Burt, and his jealous new wife on a popular relationship talk show, “Marriage Exposure,” and hears him announce to the television audience that his wife has no need to worry about his old girlfriend, Desdemona, because she always faked her orgasm during their sexual encounters. As Desdemona tries to figure out how she will be able to face her friends and the audiences at her piano concerts with this excruciating information out in the open, her mother calls to inform her that her old high school sweetheart, Hunter, is in town for an author signing of his newest book, adding to Desdemona’s angst. Nine years earlier, their unrealized relationship in school was suddenly disrupted when her desperate plan to protect Hunter’s mother from embezzlement charges wound up sending him to juvenile prison. How can she even consider possibly reconnecting with her first romantic desire with the damning history between them and her current humiliation? As told through Desdemona’s desperate narration, her and her friends’ sexual attempts to resolve her misfiring fakery becomes a comic balance to her romantic desire to understand what went wrong with the high school events and her growing hope to rekindle love with Hunter. It felt like a bit of a stretch for unknown individuals to make the connection between Desdemona and the “Marriage Exposure” revelation, based on just her name and musical skills, but it does add to her frantic insecurities in the tale, which also offers a few good twists that lead to a very enjoyable read. Title: Faking Lucky Author: Q. D. Purdu Publisher: Q. D. P. Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review: "Faking Lucky" by Q. D. Purdu My Thoughts... A good read of 'second chances' that happened to two HS sweethearts of Hunter and Desdemona. However, things will change for these two. Be ready for a fun, steamy passion, heartbreak, suspense hilarious, poignant and quick phenomenal read that will keep your attention to this twisted end. What will happen when her ex boyfriend announces on national TV that when had been faking her orgasms during their relationship? Now, how will this story come out? This is where I will say that you will have to pick up this story to see how all of this will come out. In the end the reader gets a well written romantic comedy that will definitely keep one interested turning the pages. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
