"Anna Graves's whole life has recently been turned upside down. A new mother, she's just gone back to her job as a radio presenter and is busy navigating a new schedule of late-night feedings and early-morning wake-ups while also dealing with her newly separated husband. Then the worst happens. While Anna is walking on the beach with her daughter, she's attacked by a crazed teenager. Terrified, Anna reacts instinctively to protect her baby. But her life falls apart when her attacker dies from his injuries. The police believe Anna's story, until the autopsy results reveal something more sinister. A frenzied media attack sends Anna into a spiral of self-doubt. Her precarious mental state is further threatened when she receives a chilling message from someone claiming to be the "Ophelia Killer," a serial killer who preyed on the town twenty years ago--and who abruptly stopped when Anna's father committed suicide. Is Anna as innocent as she claims? And is murder forgivable, if committed to save your child's life?"--Front dust jacket flap.… (plus d'informations)

While the premise of this book was quite interesting, the successive plot was wrapped up in a way that relied a lot on believing a coincidence that I just couldn't buy.

I had a lot of trouble getting into this book. I enjoyed the sentiment behind how passionate Anna was as a mother, but I felt like she wasn't well developed as a character otherwise. She's got a career as a radio presenter, but she has to take a lot of time off. This isn't her fault, but it takes away a lot of her interest.

I will definitely say that I was surprised by the ultimate end; I did not see it coming at all. But I was surprised and I didn't really buy it because it didn't fit in with anything I'd read to that point. It was a unique ending, but not one I was particularly pleased by.

I guess I just feel like the police should have handled this one. Anna wasn't the one investigating. The novel focused on how the events affected her, but I just didn't really care. I wanted to be in the action.

This is worth a shot, but it was sadly not my cup of tea. It took me forever to read it because I kept getting distracted by more engaging books.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

You guys. Oh my god. You guys. I started this book this morning and was hooked within 3 chapters. I kept sneaking furtive glances at my phone, trying to figure out how I could read this and get my work done without getting in trouble. I resisted for the most part but every time I got a chance (waiting for a meeting to start, going to the bathroom (you do it too), while dinner cooked), I read.

I don't want to say anything about anything because I don't want to ruin anything. All I will say is, someone read this so we can talk about it. It was good, kept me guessing and if I say anything more, I am afraid I will ruin something.

This book was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for a review.

Review:

This book did pull me in right from the very beginning when Anna was having an argument with Heather, the producer/manager of her talk radio show. Anna is looking very argumentative and maybe a bit hostile already then wham a walk on the beach with radio show host Anna and her baby daughter Joni goes horribly wrong and a teenager is killed. Not only is this teenager "accidentally" killed at Anna's hand but the manner in which he is killed is a bit gruesome. I know Anna was protecting her baby daughter but this teenagers death kept nagging at me, I kept thinking that Anna acted too quick and maybe jumped to judgement about the whole situation a bit too soon and that is what pulled me into this book. There was so much more to this senseless (maybe, maybe not) death and I wanted to find out everything. We soon find out that Anna, who is going through a separation isn't perfect, she does have flaws but so does her soon to be ex-husband. It is disturbing how quickly things start to go wrong for Anna, how fast people turn against her when some things about her past surface. Anna has a bit of a romance which I found added a nice touch to this book. Anna's family except for her grandmother are not at all supportive. No one is team Anna except her grandmother and this so called romantic interest. There is a lot going on on this book, the Ophelia killer resurfaces after twenty years and was Elliot , the murdered teenager somehow involved? Through many twists and turns and false leads all is revealed in a very dramatic and surprising scene. To say surprising is a bit of an understatement , creepy and macabre describes the conclusion as well.

Final Thoughts:

I found this to be a great mystery/suspense book with a creepy and disturbing twist. This review was originally posted on Cindy's Book Binge ( )

No Turning Back is a multi-layered crime mystery that packs a punch and has you wanting to keep turning the pages. The book starts out with Anna Graves, a new single mom who has recently gone back to work. She has taken her daughter to the beach and she is attacked by a young man with a knife. She defends herself and her baby and the attacker dies from the confrontation. This story becomes very complicated and multi-layered from this point. There are 3 generations of Anna's family that are involved in the story. They all have deep, dark secrets that eventually come to light. This is a great mystery which keeps you reading! I would highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. ( )

This book is crazy with plot twists. First of all, Anna thinks a group of teenagers on the beach is after her and her baby as they start towards them and she runs from them only to find out they just want to return something she has dropped. Then next another teenager comes towards her and her baby mumbling something while swing a knife at her. He accidentally stumbles into her comb neck first and dies gaining her newsworthy attention as to whether she is either a murderess or a victim. Then the parents of the boy are out to get her. The next thing you know the brother of the boy is trying to help her figure out what happened and why the boy seemed incoherent and why he was poisoned.

Next, it seems a serial killer who poisoned his victims over 20 years ago, but suddenly stopped seems to have started again is up to his tricks again and is after young teenage boys again. And all the victims seem to have something in common with Anna.

And the ending will absolutely blow your mind.

This is definitely one that I whipped through. I could not read the pages fast enough. These boys were dying left and right. I could not fathom that Anna would become friends with the brother of the boy that she killed. I was screaming at her and asking her if she was stupid or what. And her brother, I just so wanted to slap him. And her mother, I did not know what was up with her. She was buried so deep down inside of herself, she was definitely hiding something. I had to know what was going on with these characters. I could not find out fast enough.

I want to shout out a huge thanks to Crooked Lane Books and Net Galley for the privilege and of their providing me with a free e-galley in order that I might read and give an honest and unbiased review. ( )
