Fiction. Romance. Heart-warming and hilarious, a story that will make you laugh, cry and bring a smile to your face. Get ready for another deliciously amazing Christmas treat from Sue Watson.... As the Prosecco chills and Bing Crosby croons, Jen Barker just knows that her long-term boyfriend is about to propose. But instead of a diamond ring nestled in her champagne flute, Jen finds cold flat rejection. Her once perfect life and dreams of a husband and family seem even further from reach. A working holiday to the Swiss Alps with her younger sister Jody might not be the Christmas Jen had it mind, but it offers her the chance to recharge her batteries and recover from heartbreak. When Jen meets handsome ski instructor Jon Zutter her hopes for a happy-ever-after seem within her grasp again. Jon is kind and gorgeous and as they bond over Sachetorte at the picturesque Cake Café, Jen thinks he might just be her perfect man. But a relationship with him comes with a catch – and there are some things even cake can't fix. As the snow falls and Christmas approaches, could this be the place that restores Jen Barker's faith in love? Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for the advanced copy of this book xx

This was yet another of Sue’s books which I absolutely adored. It had me choking on my hot chocolate on more than one occasion with laughter. It also had me reaching for the tissues too. This is an all round feel good cosy heartwarming book which I was sad to see come to an end. ( )

The Christmas Cake Cafe by Sue Watson is a feel-good holiday romance that pretty much ticks all the boxes that one needs to find in this type of book. After expecting a proposal but instead getting dumped on Christmas Eve, Jen gets an opportunity to join her step-sister and friends on a working holiday to the Swiss Alps for the next Christmas. Jen has always dreamed of the perfect romance, followed by the perfect marriage but as she meets and falls in love with the handsome ski instructor, Jon, is her happy-ever-after finally within reach or is this just another holiday good-time romance?

Although a little formulated, this book supplies the beautiful, snowy Christmas setting, the romance, a fair amount of humour and plenty of delicious cake. I appreciated that Jen is a full grown woman just turned forty who still has her romantic hopes and dreams. I enjoyed the relationship between Jen and her sister, Jody but did feel that it had more spark than her relationship with Jon. Overall, The Christmas Cake Cafe was a lively and fun read that fit in well with the holiday spirit. ( )

Sue Watson never disappoints! The Christmas Cake Cafe is another lovely, feel good holiday book that will have you giggling (and really, is a fun book for any time of year, not just the Christmas holidays).

Her characters are delightfully quirky and free-spirited. My heart broke for Jen as much as my jaw dropped as she dealt with the oddities of her roommates' borrowed wardrobe - cow udders, see-through dresses and all.

This was a lovely romance, happy and light - and a quick read, which is good because you will want cake! ( )

A Christmas romance set in the Swiss Alps, between two 40 something people. It's didn't work for me at all.
I wanted to love this, I'm a fan of bakery tied romances so this interested me. Sadly, I did not enjoy this story for many reasons. The constant repetitions were #1 on that list. The half sister issue, was a title that was used, and used, and used, so many times. The 1/2 sister, Jody called her sister Jan, old, constantly, harping on it over and over. Jan, in her 40's is still rehashing her daddy issues, and then the issue comes back for a repeat with the introduction of Ella. Jan then tells us again and again how this all felt.
Insta-lust-love for the woman even when the man, Jon, acts uninterested, aloof, and secretive. I never got why she was so attached to him, the author told me she wanted him, told me about his blues eyes, over and over. (repetition again) He was not there more than not, he barely spoke, and when his excuse came it was so poorly explained, but Jan took it.
The romance, went from nothing to bed, which was anti climatic, nearly a fade to black scene. It was treated as nothing special. There was no great build up, now great wow moment, it was so dull. The only connecting moment for me came while they were eating cake and cookies for a few brief paragraphs and even then he was standoffish and distant. I never for a moment thought these two should be together, I felt no connection.
There was a lot of telling. Parts read like lectures from an old aunt on how everyone should feel.
I really didn't like this book and completely disliked the writing style. ( )
