Without dowries or the opportunity to meet eligible gentlemen, the five Barlow sisters stand little chance of making advantageous marriages. But when the eldest attracts the attention of a wealthy viscount, it seems as though Fate is smiling upon them. Lucy knows she owes it to her sisters to encourage Lord Bexley's attentions, since marriage to a peer will secure their futures as well as hers. The man of her dreams was Andrew Livingston, her best friend's brother. But he's always treated her like a child, and now he's betrothed to another. Perhaps the time has come to accept reality... and Lord Bexley. Andrew returned from the Peninsular War with a lame arm and emotional scars. Surprisingly, it's his sister's friend, "little Lucy," who shows him the way out of his melancholy when he notices that Lucy has grown up into a lovely young woman. But with an eligible viscount courting her, Andrew will need a little Christmas magic to win her for himself.… (plus d'informations)

This is a sweet short story. Lucy Barlow is the eldest of five sisters who are short on dowries and eligible suitors. Lucy finally has an eligible beau in an older widower with three daughters of her own when her neighbor, Andrew Livingston, returns wounded from the Peninsular wars. Lucy has always been in love with him, but he is engaged to another so she is resigned to settling for the widower.
Andrew is surprised at how his young neighbor, Lucy, has grown up but has issues of his own. The characters are believable and the Christmas traditions are bittersweet and fun to read about. ( )
