"The new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Devil Wears Prada and Revenge Wears Prada--a dishy tell-all about a beautiful tennis prodigy who, after changing coaches, suddenly makes headlines on and off the court. Charlotte "Charlie" Silver has always been a good girl. She excelled at tennis early, coached by her father, a former player himself, and soon became one of the top juniors in the world. When she leaves UCLA--and breaks her boyfriend's heart--to turn pro, Charlie joins the world's best athletes who travel eleven months a year, competing without mercy for Grand Slam titles and Page Six headlines. After Charlie suffers a disastrous loss and injury on Wimbledon's Centre Court, she fires her longtime coach and hires Todd Feltner, a legend of the men's tour, who is famous for grooming champions. Charlie is his first-ever female player, and he will not let her forget it. He is determined to change her good-girl image--both on the court and off--and transform her into a ruthless competitor who will not only win matches and climb the rankings, but also score magazine covers and seven-figure endorsement deals. Her not-so-secret affair with the hottest male player in the world, sexy Spaniard Marco Vallejo, has people whispering, and it seems like only a matter of time before the tabloids and gossip blogs close in on all the juicy details. Charlie's ascension to the social throne parallels her rising rank on the women's tour--but at a major price. Lauren Weisberger's novel brings us exclusive behind-the-scenes details from all the Grand Slam tournaments: the US Open, the French Open, the Australian Open, and Wimbledon. Charlie Silver jets around the globe, plays charity matches aboard Mediterranean megayachts, models in photo shoots on Caribbean beaches, walks the red carpet at legendary player parties, and sidesteps looming scandals--all while trying to keep her eyes on the real prize. In this sexy, unputdownable read about young tennis stars who train relentlessly to compete at the highest levels while living in a world obsessed with good looks and Instagram followers, Charlie must discover the secret to having it all--or finally shatter the illusion for good"--… (plus d'informations)

3.5 stars.

The cover is deceiving. It's a woman in a sexy black gown with her back turned and the title which is The Singles Game. I thought it was a woman who was single (which she is) but the plot of the book is tennis!

You don't have to play tennis to enjoy this book about Charlotte (Charlie) Silver who was 25 and her tennis career. It was chick lit but not in the usual sense to me. Less romance (okay, some but she mostly focused on her career) but that's good for me.

It was a fun read with the seriousness of tennis mixed in. I hate open endings, but I will make the call of hopefully how it ended. ( )

I got this in one of my Book Riot boxes but the odds are good that I'd have read it anyway because I liked The Devil Wears Prada and I really enjoy tennis.

I enjoyed the bones of this story but it still fell a bit flat to me. I think I didn't like Charlie quite enough and I found much of the story repetitive. I also thought the romantic resolution could have had a lot more build up. It wasn't hard to see where it was going just because I've read chick lit before and know the formula but I wanted to be more invested in what happened with that.

Verdict: it's fine if you like tennis but would likely be a snore if you don't

This was almost enough to make me want to watch five or so minutes of tennis, which is saying a lot. Quite well done. The end romance was sweet, but also not necessaryor quite built up to enough. ( )

Some minor inaccuracies in the details if you are a tennis fan and the ending was pretty predictable, but a fun, quick beach read. Pretty much what I expected. ( )

This was a fun read, set in the world of high-stakes tennis matches. Charlie Silver is a professional tennis player determined to reach the top of her field, causing her to work with a stringent coach who drives her to go further and to play harder. But, amid the product endorsements and high-profile matches, Charlie starts to lose her own self, causing her to take actions she never would have considered before. Pieces of this story felt familiar, but in a good way and I got more into this book than I expected (I'm typically not a fan of anything about sports). It was also a little different from the things I've been reading recently and so it felt refreshing to me. ( )
