I connected easily to Jezebel and sol and absolutely adored Reuben he was definitely my favourite by far and i would have liked to see more of him.So in conclusion i found the story was well written, flowed well ,the world building was excellent and it kept me captivated from start to finish a job well done and i for one am eager to know what occurs next. I received my copy of this eBook for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. I struggled with this one, A LOT. There was nothing wrong with the prose, it was very well written and it did interest me, when I forced my self to settle into it, but honestly I really had to force myself. I am so burned out on YA dystopian, post-apocalyptic novels that I'm afraid this beautiful work got lost in the shuffle which is something that I do not want! Jez was a fantastic character, and she did appeal to me quite a bit. I felt something akin to what she was going through, obviously our circumstances are not the same, but there was a connection where she called to me. I want her to learn how strong she truly is, to show the readers how she's going to face her destiny as the Carrier head on and without fear, because she knows it is in the best interest of all others. She does try to fight her own instincts, a lot, but I see this as a part of her conditioning as a child growing up. She had to learn to hide her emotions from others and keep them under control while not bucking against societal norms and following fairly strict rules. This really appealed to me, and was what truly endeared Jez to my heart because I know what it's like to keep something hidden within, and to carry your burdens alone. One thing I want to point out - This love triangle isn't going to be an easy one to resolve nor is it going to be easy on your readers. Jez is quite obviously in "love" with both Rueben and Sol. I can't tell you whom I want her to choose, and normally I would have a very clear opinion in matters like this - but... There is something about both of these young men that I just do not trust! I keep thinking that they are going to betray her - no matter what in the end she will be on her own anyways! The writing was fabulous. I felt like I was lost in this world. I really had to buckle myself in to want to read it, but when I did I was totally rewarded with a wonderful book that sets itself up into something much much more with that cliffhanger! 4.5 Stars from me! I want to see how it ends! This is a story about post-apocalyptic fiction with runaway climate change (raining every day for 37 years and only sunny days are two solstices). The story line is a bit depressing and scattered. The main character has a lot of teen angst despite the harmony patch implant which seems to control 90% of population. It is hard for me to think only such small percentage were not affected by the implant and it also seems illogical how the sun can only shine on two solstices a year. The other problem is the link between the carrier of key and generator and how the carriers can change the situation is very vague. The abrupt ending is not doing anything to entice me for the second book of the series. Solstice is a truly enjoyable book. Jane Redd is definitely a talented writer. Not surprising as Jane Redd is a pseudonym for Heather B. Moore, a USA Today best selling author. Solstice carries its own honor as a top 10 seller in two of Amazon’s categories. I usually have a lot to say about books. I don’t really about Solstice. Solstice is a book that I began reading and just kept on reading. No stopping to take notes. No frustrating issues. Not one. Solstice is a book that I just relaxed and truly enjoyed. Redd does leave you hanging at the end though so I’m looking forward to the next book in the series called Lake Town. An interesting and fast-paced read. I recommend that you relax and enjoy reading a copy. I received a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. My thanks to the author and publisher. There are four ways to get Banished from the last surviving city on earth: 1. Cut out your emotion tracker, 2. Join a religious cult, 3. Create a rebellion against the Legislature, 4. Fall in love. Jezebel James does all four. Jez is on the fast-track to becoming a brilliant scientist, with one goal--save her city from total extinction. But the more Jez learns about the price of a fresh beginning, the more she realizes that carrying out the plan will lead to few survivors, and among the dead will be those she cares about the most.
