This book is a great way to address fears with children. This book in particular addresses fear of heights and how the fear subsides over time. My children and I enjoy the illustrations, especially how things are made to appear so tall. The story is a simple but effective way to speak to your child about things they might be afraid of and how perspectives can change. ( )

Toby, a little boy wears a parachute like a security blanket. He feels that his parachute keeps him safe, as he fears many things. As the story continues, Toby climbs up to a tree house where his friend Henry is waiting for him. He lets Henry use his parachute to get down, and then he realizes that he's all alone. He climbs down slowly, and little, by little makes his way all the way down safely. He was brave, and as the story continues, Toby forgets his parachute and uses it less and less.

A book that is useful for showing kids how being brave sometimes helps us to learn that we can be brave other times too, and how we don't even need help to feel safe, and do things on our own. This book gently walks young children through coping with anxiety and relying on help less and less until they don't need it anymore. ( )

This book was about a young boy who carried around a parachute wherever he went! Wether it was breakfast, to the zoo, or climbing up to his tree house he had his parachute with him. When the boy was forced to save his cat from a very tall branch, he conquered his fear of heights and used his parachute to get his cat safely back to the ground. He then had to climb down the ladder on his own, and realized he was okay! He started carrying around his parachute less and less until he no longer needed it.

This book is amazing because the central message is conquering your fears, and trying new things. Children at this age have items such as blankets or dolls that they carry around to help them feel safe. Children can learn that they do not need these items to conquer everyday task which will then instill confidence. ( )

Toby has a parachute that he wears everywhere. It helps him feel brave so that he can do things that are hard for him. But when his cat, Henry, is in trouble, Toby has to figure out how to save him. He sacrifices his parachute to help Henry, but that leaves him stranded in the tree house. He musters up the courage to go down the ladder by himself, and once he gets over his fear he slowly doesn't need his parachute anymore.
In the beginning of the book Toby cant leave the house without his parachute because it makes him feel safe. Throughout the book he realizes that he is brave enough without his parachute and can do things on his own. He grows up and can eventually ween himself off of his security blanket. ( )

A cute story. Toby (the MC) always carries a parachute, which acts as his "security blanket," but he uses it to help someone else and learns to be brave without it. Fun illustrations and a good theme (overcoming fears) for young children.
